Last month was a big stepping stone in my self-development journey.

For the last few years, I have tried to work on different aspects of my life, physical health, mental health, careers, self-confidence and so on. However, I could not calm my monkey mind and this was bothering me.

A person has an average of 70,000 thoughts per day. That's definitely a lot of good, not-so-good and bad thoughts.

After hours of research and listening to podcasts on positive thinking and manifestation, I am learning to quiet my mind and master my thoughts.

I have realised we never evaluate the quality of our thoughts and how it is affecting us, our environment and our reality.

Science Check

From Quantum physics, we have learnt that everything in the universe is made up of energy. We are made up of energy. However, each physical matter has a different vibrational frequency and atomic density. The energies vary from anywhere to high to low.

On the other hand, the law of attraction states that like attracts like. This means a high-frequency vibration will attract another high-frequency vibration and vice versa.

Similarly, our thoughts and emotions are all made up of energy and each thought and emotion has a different frequency. If we change how we think, we can change how we feel and what emotions we experience.

If we change a negative thought into a positive one, we will experience a positive emotion that will exhibit a positive frequency. We then attract the same frequency back.

When we alter our thoughts, we alter our emotions, which alter our vibration and finally our reality.

Negative thoughts never make us feel good.

Fear, anger, hatred and jealousy are low-vibration emotions. Whereas peace, gratitude, love and hope are high-vibration emotions.

Therefore, we need to change our thought process.

How can we change our thoughts?

It is our responsibility to protect ourselves from anything that affects us and depletes our energy.

Below are some of the practices and behaviours I am adopting to improve the quality of my thoughts and hence to experience more high-vibration emotions.

1. Increase your self-awareness

Self-awareness is an ongoing practice of introspection. It is about being true and vulnerable to yourself. It can be an uncomfortable practice and it takes strength to open up, dig deeper within and sit with what you feel, do, experience, and observe. When done consistently and correctly, you will be able to recognize where your thoughts and emotions are leading you.

You will be more in control of your thoughts and emotions. You will be able to notice patterns and trigger points.

2. Seek Improvement feedback

It is easier for us to think we are not good at something. We are not good decision-makers, we are poor at planning and we don't communicate well.

Instead of judging ourselves harshly, seek feedback from people you trust. It could be a close friend, a mentor or a colleague.

Constructive feedback will help us build self-awareness and helps us become mindful of the impact that our actions have.

3. Filter the information you consume

We consume information mainly from the internet and social media. But, all the contents on the net are not appropriate for our emotional health. People tend to share bad news more than good news. With the number of hours we spend on social media, it is important that we are mindful of the type of content we are consuming. The negative contents affect our thoughts, emotions and our actions.

This applies to the information we consume offline as well. Involving gossiping and talking bad about someone are negative energy activities.

We become what we consume. So, try to consume information (music, books and news) that is high in positive energy. Feed our minds with positive/high-vibration information regularly.

In our social media feeds, negative or depressing news can appear at any time. It could be the first thing you see in the morning or at night. The time we receive negative information is very important as it can affect our day and our sleep.

If you want to keep up to date with what is happening in your country and the world, choose a time that is appropriate for you to receive the information. In this way, we have control over when and what we feed our minds.

4. Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness can be described as being fully present, savouring the present moment and maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings and actions.

Irrespective of what tasks you are doing, whether you are feeding your kids or having a walk in the park, try to be in the moment.

These activities can help you practice mindfulness:

  • Walk in nature

  • Observe your breathing

  • Journaling - Whenever you got a lot of thoughts and emotions going on at the same time

  • Avoid doing several tasks at the same time

  • Spend some time in solitude - It could be when journalling, listening to music or reading a book

  • Practice meditation - There are a lot of mindfulness apps that provide guided meditation or you can find guided meditation on YouTube

5. Change your habits

Habits are all the small actions you do every day. James Clear explained beautifully the power of habits in his book Atomic Habit.

You can find his book on Amazon using this link.

Whatever you do repeatedly form the person you are.

If you want to be a kind person, your thoughts need to be kind (high vibration), which will make feel good and then you need to act kindly.

Whatever you want to be, you have to practice that habit. If you want to be a good swimmer. You have to think of yourself as a good swimmer. Then you will feel confident when you swim which will improve your swimming skills.

In this newsletter, I have shared five habits that have changed my life.

As I mentioned earlier, we attract the level of vibration that we exhibit and it all starts with our thought.

Your mind can't control you. You have to control your mind.

This belief system about your mind and thought is applicable in all aspects of your life - whether you want to manifest something or change a bad habit.

This is not magic, it is a continuous process. When done correctly, it can have a tremendous effect on our well-being and how we think and feel.
