The Power of Kindness

Sent by Yandini | February 26, 2023

Hey there!

We always hear or read that we need to be kind to others. What might surprise you is that this is actually backed by research.

Kindness has the power to improve our mental and physical health. Just being kind and compassionate can boost our happiness and well-being. Kindness also helps with reducing stress, improving our emotional well-being and lowering our blood pressure.

But, there is a difference between being kind and nice. Being nice is conforming to behaviours that society deems as "nice" while being kind is acting from a place of deep-rooted love and compassion.

It is important to act from a place of selflessness, love, compassion and empathy.

With some much going on recently in the world - the pandemic, earthquakes and flood, we are in urgent need of kindness. It really does make a difference, especially for those who are vulnerable or struggling.

We can feel the impact irrespective of how small the act of kindness is. It can be holding a door for someone, bringing a cup of coffee for a colleague or helping someone move out.

Through kindness, we can help others feel better, belong and encourage them to repeat the good deeds they've experienced themselves.

Kindness can be and should be integrated into everything we do in life - whether it is in business, in the community, at work or at home.

10 acts of kindness which will benefit you and the other person:

  • Tell your family how much you love them and appreciate them

  • Ring someone who is alone

  • Listen to a colleague who is having a bad day

  • Think about your comments on social media before you reply

  • Send someone a handwritten thank you note

  • Be a considerate driver

  • Smile and say hello to people

  • Offer to help an elderly person or someone in need

  • Offer help to someone at work who is not familiar with new software that you have already used

  • Take time to contact people you haven't seen for a while

With gratitude,

Yandini 💛
